Istanbul is packed with curious sights, people, and situations. Those at the ends of dark passageways or in forgotten corners you’ll certainly find for yourself. As for the “big” sights well, the city seems as though it was designed for sightseeing. Spend your first few days in the area around Sultanahmet Square in the Old City, and you’ll find ,Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, Basilica Cisterrn (Yerebatan Saray), the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, the Archeological Museum, and Gülhane Park in short, most of the major sights in Istanbul, all within a few minutes’ walk from the bus stop in the square.
If you plan to see the sights on your own, one of the best buses is the T-4, which, like the T-l, runs a circle route around the old and new cities from Taksim to Dolmabahce Palace. Karaköy, Eminönü, Sultanahmet, and Hürriyet (Beyazıt) Square. After the bus station at Hürriyet, the trip continues through Aksaray, Unkapanı, across the Atatürk Bridge to Şişhane, Tünel, Galatasaray, and then back to Taksim. The T-4 bus runs in this direction, the T-l in the opposite direction, you are daunted by the thought of getting acquainted with this vast and bustling city on your own, you might want the help of a Istanbul Tours. If not, then head out on your own. The best way to start is with two once-over-lightly walking tours.
