SUB AQUA: Sub aqua in Turkish waters with amateur equipment is permitted in certain areas for leisure purposes under the guidance of local authorities. I know some tourists visiting Turkey every year just for paraglid-ing or underwater diving (PADI courses are also available for GBP 160.-) or for some other sports like RAFTING because of their reasonable prices. Detailed information can be obtained from your nearest Turkish Tourism Information Offices abroad.
RAFTING: There are many rivers in Turkey, which provide perfect conditions for canoeing,
water skiing and rafting. The river are; Çoruh, Barhal, Berta, Fırtına, Çolaklı, Köprüçay, Manavgat, Dragon, Göksu (Silifke), Zamantı Göksu (Feke), Kızılırmak (the longest one which originates and flows within the borders of Turkey 1,355 Km/ 842 miles long) and Dalaman River (very close to the resorts of Fethiye, Marmaris and Akyaka).
WIND SURFING: Turkish seas are heaven for windsurfers. The bays around the Çeşme, Bodrum and Datça (60 km.West of Marmaris) peninsulas are blessed with ideal winds for this sport. Enthusiasts will be pleased by the reasonable cost, international standards, ideal climate between May-November, secluded bays and services available!
FISHING: Tourists may fish for sport in non-prohibited regions without obtaining licences. Amateur equipment and non-commercial, multi-hooked lines should be used and nets should not weigh more than 5 kg (11 pounds). Commercial fishing by foreigners carries heavy fines. The most common sea fish are anchovy, mullet, pilchard, Atlantic horse mackerel. The most common fresh water fish are trout, common carp, european eel and cyprinids.
GOLF: Turkey’s historical and natural beauties include well-maintained and secluded golf courses. Golfers will be delighted with the 18-hole golf links, which are maintained to international standards. In addition, there are open tournaments.
There are a few golf courses in Istanbul and a few in Ankara and some by Antalya Belek. The hotels in Belek near Antalya offer cheap holidays between Jan 1 and March 31. Five night all inclusive stay will cost 200.- ? per person. You can get more information from Information Offices, travel agencies, and rofessional tour guides in Turkey.
AIR SPORTS: There are several suitable locations in Turkey for all types of wind and air sports. These sports include single engine flights (Ankara), parachuting, fixed wing gliding (Eskişehir), hang gliding, hot air ballooning Capppadocia Nevşehirjand paragliding in Fethiye (Ovacık and Blue Lagoon, hich costs roughly 40 GBP per head per flight).
WINTER SPORTS: Although Turkey is known for it’s ancient sites, kebabs, friendly people and hot sunny mediterranean resorts, swimming, sun athing and water sports, there are many mountains with snow in winters, here are 1.3 ski and winter sport centres in Turkey.
