Christmas is the main festival of Christians. The ratio of Christians in Turkey is less than 1 %. But the rate of non-practising and semi-practising Muslims is nearly half of the total population.
So Turkish people do not celebrate Christmas but some of them do celebrate New Year’s Day. They go out to a club or a disco, pay an entrance fee f°r unlimited local drinks and an open buffet. It costs US $ 40 up to 100 per head according to the popularity of the showmen, dancers or the singers. 1st °f January is a national holiday so people enjoy themselves till the early hours of the day, the traffic accident rate is very high on that night despite drink-driving being strictly prohibited.
