As part of our trip to Turkey, we spent one day in the historic peninsula of Istanbul, where Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palaca and some other historic monuments stand. Our guide Gokhan gave us incredible sense of the history of the city and the amazing structures we visited. He was quick and satisfactory with his answers to our many questions and he really enjoyed what he was doing. It was like spending a day in Istanbul with a friend, who really knows about it.
Basilica Cistern was a great place to cool of from the heat of the day, it was really interesting, very cheep to go in, I really enjoyed it. Not sure I would go again but I would definitely recommend it!
Don't miss the Basilica Cistern; You won't see something similar anywhere else. Great lights, fresh temperature, silent ambiental music. Calm and magical.
We had a lovely tour of Istanbul with our tour guide and the tour is so much better and less expensive than any group tour the cruise ships offer.
This tour is well worth the money.. especially if you only have a short amount of time in Istanbul.
My husband and I had never been to Istanbul. Although we travel a lot, we’ve never booked a tour anywhere. We are so glad we did in Istanbul. Our guide he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city…its architecture, its history, rugs, and on and on. We weren’t interested in visiting the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market with him, correctly deciding we could do that on our own. So we spent the day walking around old Istanbul, visiting Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, and other sites. By the end of the day, we were good friends with Gokhan and plan to see him again, either in the States, where he travels frequently, or in Greece, where we have a house on the Peloponnese.
Excellent attarction to visit, together with the Harem – a person can easily spend 6 hours. Loved the palace and all the tile work. Be sure you pay extra to see the Harem. We were glad we did not skip that.
You have to visit Topkapi Palace, it is just wonderful and so different from European style palaces! We spent 6 hours inside and it was still more to spend if you wanted. Lovely!
The palace and harem is very fascinating and beautiful. The well kept artefacts of Ottoman Empire and Sultans’ Gem stones and Armours were a treat to watch. The café towards the Bosphorus was excellent to sit and enjoy the view. The Harrem where the Muslim sacred artefacts are kept is an excellent collection and must watch. The surrounding architects constructed during the Ottoman Empires take you to those eras and one enjoys the historic architects. There are lots of sitting areas to enjoy the place. Overall its a must visit place for nature and history loving people.
