I've had the Hagia Sophia on my bucket list for over 25 years, so I was very disappointed to walk into it and find one whole side of the interior hidden by scaffolding. I accept, however, that old buildings need work!
its so interesting if you are interested in history. it really makes feel thinking yourself in the past.
We were lucky and to get a private half day tour “Istanbul Byzantine” and were grateful for our very friendly and knowledgeable guide. He picked us up from the hotel and we were driven directly to the Blue mosque to enter without queuing. We learn a lot about the culture of a different religion and to understand and respect it. I wouldn’t recommended it any other way. Our guide also pointed out some trustworthy vendors at the great Bazaar and even drove us to the ferry pier. Fantastic service and well worth the money. Very recommendable!
Definitely should be included on your itinerary. The museum was full of artifacts from areas in and around Turkey.
We have now visited Hagia Sophia twice and each time it has been a fresh experience as the continuing restoration reveals further details of this awe inspiring building, particularly considering its age and the challenge involved in its construction. A visit to Istanbul (or Turkey, for that matter) would not be complete if it did not include a visit to…
Hagia Sophia a must visit in Istanbul. Don't forget to arrange for tickets in advance as it can be very crowded. Would suggest you take privatetour.net as their guide Taylan is really good and gives detailed history of the place.
The tour was a fantastic experience our group made up of cruises from cruse critic all expressed there thanks to our guide who was so knowledgeable on Istanbul.
If you are interested in ancient civilisations you can not afford to miss this place. One of the star attractions include Alexanders sarcophagus.
