After leaving the Archaeology Museum, you will finally have the opportunity to do some haggling at the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is like any bazaar except that, as its explains, it is all within one huge building. 我们参加私人一日游时正好碰上当地的礼拜五市场。从蓝色清真寺出来后,我们要求到有带我们逛了一圈礼拜五市场,亲身体验了当地人的日常生活。
Lots to see at this museum. Several floors to explore and several buildings. Things to explore outside too as the museum covers a wide area. Loved the Palace outside which now is a museum to pottery and china. A very lovely building which I enjoyed more than the pottery.
Thank you to Gokhan for sharing Istanbul with us with wonderful narratives, humor, and heart. He made our first experience in Istanbul a lasting impression. We haven’t stopped talking about our new friend Gokhan and have taken away with us a broader view of Turkey, the beautiful people, and life there in the past and the present. If you do one thing while in Istanbul, don’t hesitate to take a tour with this man….he will make your visit feel alive. Thank you for treating us Californian’s with such kinship and ease….it was a spectacular experience that we will recommend to all our friends.
We completely enjoyed our day with Taylan, who is Turkish. He was very generous with his time and extremely knowledgable regarding the history as well as cultural and religious aspects of Istanbul and the country of Turkey. He was consciencious and careful to arrive on time with a clean, reliable car and he gave us good advice for the rest of our trip. He extended the tour beyond that which he had offered to show us. Really great!
Hagia Sophia tt doesn't look much from outside, but it's a gorgeous building on the inside. You can feel the history and see and learn a lot about those times – the war between Islam and Christianity. It's a must see for those, interested in history and architecture .
This is a must see, especially when paired with other historic sites in Istanbul. There are so many amazing artifacts inside, history buffs could spend hours. The sarcophagus collection was the highlight for me as well as the relics from Sidon. Very cool.
This museum is in the Topkapi complex. It has wonderful artifacts scattered in different buildings. The piece de resistance is the Alexander Sarcophagus. The workmanship is dazzling and the one can identify Alexander without even reading the accompanying legend. Do visit the Tile Pavilion too.
Coming from Rome to Istanbul, I was partly expecting the Archaeological Museum to be as impressive as what I could find in Rome. While not quite as expansive, if you are interested in ancient history & archaeology, it is certainly worth the trip.
The museum was huge with good combination of ancient and more recent remnants. It covered anything from Arabia to 16-17th century. Remember to turn off your flash and not to touch the pieces. Make sure to visit the garden pieces and take a stroll through the buildings – some of the best pictures I took.
