Istanbul Archaeology Museum is tucked away behind one of the narrow cobblestone streets near the Topkapi Palace. The museum is actually in two major buildings (as I recall). The sarcophagus of Alexander the Great was incredible with details and color from centuries ago. The tile museum building itself was a beauty unto itself, in addition to the with relics and pottery…
Es una locura todo lo que se puede hacer en istanbul creo que tendre que volver pero lo hare con este tour privado sin duda alguna
This tour was less than the cruise tour. we had a fab..time. thx
This is perhaps the most complete museum in the whole of Turkey and in fact, there are even artifacts ranging from Egyptian ones which I personally feel were quite irrelevant and random. Other than that, this museum has a lot of items on display with some rare finds.
The Grand Bazaar is like the “Cave of Ali Baba”, full of sparkles from the true jewelry, the fake jewelery, the copper objects, the light bulbs. The smells can not also be forgotten. It is unique and amazing.
My husband and I had never been to Istanbul. Although we travel a lot, we’ve never booked a tour anywhere. We are so glad we did in Istanbul. Our guide he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city…its architecture, its history, rugs, and on and on. We weren’t interested in visiting the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market with him, correctly deciding we could do that on our own. So we spent the day walking around old Istanbul, visiting Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, and other sites. By the end of the day, we were good friends with Gokhan and plan to see him again, either in the States, where he travels frequently, or in Greece, where we have a house on the Peloponnese.
You must see this museum. The collection is amazing. Exhibits dating back to 5000 B.C. It contains Alexander the Great coffin.
One of my favourites in last weeks visit. If you are interested in history and the development of both Istanbul and civilisation in the wider area this is a must see. Spread over a rambling site so make sure you visit all three buildings.
We were travelling on a cruise ship with 3 couples and booked a private tour our tour guide seemed to get us to each place before the big crowds arrived thanks.
This is a great museum – although the main portion was under construction when we went. There are some very cool exhibits – and while many just go because its under the museum card, I say its totally worth it!
