The Archaeology Museum was pleasantly quiet when we visited, in contrast to the palace next door. The museum has some great pieces and with parts of the museum reopening after renovation since I last visited a little over a year ago I'm glad I returned.
Grandbazaar nice historical old Market in Istanbul, nice design, big, and contain many wonderful things, one thing I don't like in this market, that some owners of shops boring you to sell their product.
Though not the largest museum, it had some very interesting pieces. Split into three sections, it had things grouped nicely. The Islamic tile section was interesting, as I'd seen nothing like it before. The museum closed far earlier than advertised though.
My then wife and I visited Istanbul many years ago but the visit to the Grand Bazaar was an experience that even now I can recall with great clarity.Approximately 4000 stalls under cover selling just about everything imaginable and some unmentionable.Leather goods in particular are a good buy if you are prepared to haggle.
Hagia Sophia is a wonder of human construction. It's history extends through many cultures, it's a must in Istanbul.
Was pleasantly surprised with contents spreading aeound 8000 years of history. Adjacent to busy Topkapi palace the Museum provides breathing space. Plane to visit early in the day with plenty of time to really appreciate the history mix of greek roman and beyound erra.
On previous trips to Istanbul we have walked pass the entrance to the Archaeological Museum simply because we thought there were more exciting ‘attractions’ to visit than an archaeological museum as a result this museum never made it onto our ‘must visit’ list, how wrong we were.
The museum has a lot of items in display, but none of them stand out for being an important historical artifact. Alexander Sarcophagous, wasnt really used to bury Alexander the great. Hammurabi's code is just a copy, used to teach it in ancient times.
We went to the Grand Bazaar and bought table cloths, mosaic lamps and carpet I thought it was reasonable price after we negotiate for a discount.
