Visit the Underground Cistern (Basilica Cistern),waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. It’s impressive.

Grand Bazaar, one of those great let-downs that’s nowadays crawling with tourists, thieves & expensive trinkets. It was probably a much more interesting place 100 years ago when it resembled more of a flea market full of slaves, illegal arms & expensive silks.

Visiting Topkapi Palace is one of the most enriching tourist experiences, visually & culturally. To wander through its various courts & complex of structures is to imagine yourself stepping back into imperial Ottoman times. The amazing opulence & grandeur of the Palace reflects the unbridled, absolute power and majesty that the Sultan possessed. There is nothing small-scale about Topkapi palace.
Hagia Sophia gave me the "WOW" moment in Istanbul. It is beautiful, well maintained, affordable admission ticket, it is a must-see of Istanbul.
It was a great experience to visit Istanbul. You can get great panoromic city photographs from golden horn.I recommend to drink and taste traditional Turkish foods in this wonderful city. Topkapi palace, bosphorus, blue mosque, grand bazaar, taksim was amazing. Our guide was also very friendly and she gave us historical information about the amazing city.
My husband and I had never been to Istanbul. Although we travel a lot, we’ve never booked a tour anywhere. We are so glad we did in Istanbul. Our guide he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the city…its architecture, its history, rugs, and on and on. We weren’t interested in visiting the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market with him, correctly deciding we could do that on our own. So we spent the day walking around old Istanbul, visiting Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, and other sites. By the end of the day, we were good friends with Gokhan and plan to see him again, either in the States, where he travels frequently, or in Greece, where we have a house on the Peloponnese.
Hagia Social is a former Orthodox Church, converted to a mosque & later converted to a museum that explores both faiths and their effects on Turkey, and the Roman & Ottoman Empires.
If you are in Istanbul, you have to see Topkapi Palace. I have not had time to get around all the rooms but visited the treasury and rooms of shrines. Although that I was tired, I really enjoyed
Hagia Sophia is amazing.
Everything about the Basilica Cistern was so magical. We did have to wait a bit (we went during the heat of August, so that was brutal), but once inside it was perfectly cool and absolutely stunning. This is a MUST SEE!
