Hagia Sophia is a must see – it's worth a trip in it's own right. From the outside it looks kind of scruffy, but then the Byzantine empire was never that bothered about exterior. But you can see how the building works from the outside. The interior drips with marble, The side aisles are huge.
Basilica Cistern hidden sight of Istandbul is an ancient (and btw with 9.800m² the largest) cistern (amongst several hundered others), located 150m SW of Hagia Sophia, built in the 6th century, at the place of the Great Basilica (that's why the name). It provided water filtration (with a capacity of up to 100.000l, today only less 1m water depth).
When you walk into the Hipperdrome, you can not vison as to what it looked like in the past. After doing some research, we found more information at the Istanbul Archaelogy Museum. It was in the past a place of great moments, just imagine horse racing here. It is also a great place to come.
We enjoyed the Topkapi Palace, there are many amazing tiles adorning all of the rooms. The harem is a must see and will complete your visit.
Hagia Sophia amazing place also, beautiful place and people are extremely friendly in this area, would definitely recommend
El tour privado de istanbul esun sueño hermoso
Topkapi Palace is varied in its attraction housing beautiful artefacts along with interesting architecture and interiors. If you arrive early, the harem (which by reports can be very crowded) is less crowded.
Don't miss the Basilica Cistern; You won't see something similar anywhere else. Great lights, fresh temperature, silent ambiental music. Calm and magical.
Hagia Sophia a stunning beauty, an architectural marvel of the world.
Really there are plenty of things to see and do in Istanbul and as I only stopped 2 days will definitely make a return visit perhaps next year, but Basilica Cistern amazed me perhaps because it's underground and a massive structure ,it seemed to impress me for this reason. But it was so peaceful and the atmosphere was unusual.
