Visit the Topkapi Palace, once the palace of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire, Topkapi is a vast treasury of Islamic culture, science and weaponry, visited by over 2 million people every year. It is one of the highlights of Turkey.
Visit the Underground Cistern (Basilica Cistern),waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. It’s impressive.
Visit the Hippodrome see the famous Obelisk from Egypt, a remarkable pink granite monument built 3,500 years ago The Byzantine Hippodrome, with the Obelisk of Theodosius, was brought from Heliopolis, Egypt, and the Serpentine Column from Delphi during the reign of Constantine.
After leaving the Hippodrome, you will finally have the opportunity to do some haggling at the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is like any bazaar except that, as its explains, it is all within one huge building. Depending on how you measure it, the covered market here could be the largest shopping center in the world, numbering over 4,000 individual shops, you will find among masses of modern trash an approximation of youthful dreams of the glamorous oriental market.

Hagia Sophia a huge ancient Christian church which bacame a muslim place of worship during the Ottoman Empire. Great exterior but the queues to go inside were so long we could not stay to see inside – pity as it is apparently be spectacular.
Grand Bazaar.. It a compulsory trip when visiting Istanbul, but for us, our great expectations were left rather flat. The bazaar is like a large indoor shopping mall, comprised of a very large number of small shops. There is a sterile, soul-less feel to the place.
Topkapi Palace is a series of bildings on the asian side of Istanbul, former home to the Emperors. It is now a series of museums and a major tourist attraction. Well worth the trip and price of admission and something I highly recommend.
Basilica Cistern is very interesting place for those interested in archaeology and the general study of how ancient cities acquired their water.
The walk thru should take no more than 10 minutes unless you really want to "take it in" and contemplate on this marvel of engineering.
We were a group of 8on a Medertian Cruise Wed used this company for a day trip in Istanbul. We cannot recommend this tour enough. The transportation was top of the line and our guide and driver were outstanding. We thought it was an excellent value as well.
It's hard to miss the Hippodrome as you exit one side of Blue Mosque, but it is worth it to make a circumfrance of it anyway, particularly to see the three main columns that remain from earlier times, the Egyptian Obelisk being the most impressive of the three in my view.
Even though the guides get a little bored with western fascination with the Harem – which is a separate admission and well worth it. Get a guide and bypass all of the lines – I have a good recommendation – university professor, expert on history. Go see the jewels! Amazing they weren't all stolen when the Ottomans fell post-WWI.
The tour guide picked us up at our hotel, surprisingly on time. We went through all the most important sites in the Old City including Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace + Harem. He was well informed and you could tell that he genuinely enjoys his job. I would recommend to everyone! They are timely, flexible, and very accommodating.
From lanterns to Turkish delight to rugs to toys and spices, the Grand Bazaar was both beautiful, the colour and life you'd expect from a bustling bazaar and had a great range of items to choose from. Careful not to get lost as it's quite big!
If you have the chance to visit Istanbul and get to know the best out of it, you should know Gokhan, our fantastic guide. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with his organized, efficient, smooth running, and cost efficient program. Our trip to istanbul was really so wonderful and so memorable.
I would like to thank him for the excellent job he did while guiding our tour through Turkey. Very professional and also very patient. His great sense of humour made our tour very ,very enjoyable.
I now have a greater understanding of this nice country and would definetely love to come back again
