Visit the Underground Cistern (Basilica Cistern),waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. It’s impressive.

After leaving the Hippodrome, you will finally have the opportunity to do some haggling at the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is like any bazaar except that, as its explains, it is all within one huge building. Depending on how you measure it, the covered market here could be the largest shopping center in the world, numbering over 4,000 individual shops, you will find among masses of modern trash an approximation of youthful dreams of the glamorous oriental market.

If you like dark and damp places.. Basilica Cistern -I loved it! Only gripe was the loud groups of tourists with their tour guides who shout and spoil the atmosphere.
The Hippodrome is the ancient Byzantine/ Roman racetrack that existed in ancient Constantinople. Now it is just a plaza with a few remaining monuments next to the Blue Mosque and the Islamic Art Museum. Although it is not that spectacular in it's current state, it is worth a visit to imagine what it was like once.
Ok, everybody knows what the grand bazar is so just some hints and tips. For orientation: Up is always south and west.
1. Avoid the "main" entrance from the tram station if possible, the most aggressive vendors wait just outside.
2. Whatever you see there it is on sale and unique and can only be bought in this shop. Wrong…
Hippodrome is close to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. Very Historical if with a guide, if not, read up on it before visit. Good place to people watch from one of the cafes there.
Los tour privados generalmentw nos llevan a algunas partes pero este creo que vimos mas de la mitad de istanbul y fue muy economico
We completely enjoyed our day with Taylan, who is Turkish. He was very generous with his time and extremely knowledgable regarding the history as well as cultural and religious aspects of Istanbul and the country of Turkey. He was consciencious and careful to arrive on time with a clean, reliable car and he gave us good advice for the rest of our trip. He extended the tour beyond that which he had offered to show us. Really great!
The cistern is underground “Basilica Cistern” very cool and refreshing to get out of the humid air. The history is fascinating, don’t miss the Medusa heads and the reason they are upside down.
We had only one day to see Istanbul. It was a port of call during our cruise. We booked the small group tour and Taylan was our guide. He was excellent. We wanted to see all the highlights of Istanbul, but also wanted plenty of time to explore the Grand Bazaar. Taylan was knowledgeable, polite and interesting to talk to. He was on time, waiting for us when we got off the ship. At lunchtime, we gave him free rein as to what to order for us. He ordered his favorites and we were able to try a variety of local dishes.
WE HAD A GREAT TIME. THANKS
The Topkapi Palace is a must-see on a visit to Istanbul, though it has been pretty crowded both times I have visited.
Incredible tour. We were able to see so much in so little time. If you are visiting Istanbul you’ll not regret.
