Visit one of the most magnificent museums in the world Hagia Sophia ,you will be captivated by the beauty ,of this ancient basilica, with its mosaics, nartex, galleries and incomparable architecture, built by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th Century.
Visit the Topkapi Palace, once the palace of the Sultans of the Ottoman Empire, Topkapi is a vast treasury of Islamic culture, science and weaponry, visited by over 2 million people every year. It is one of the highlights of Turkey.
Visit the Underground Cistern (Basilica Cistern),waterway was used as a reservoir for water storage for the Great Palace and other buildings. It is 132 m length, by 65m wide. There are 336 columns in the cistern. Most of the column capitals are either in Corinthian or Doric Style. It’s impressive.
Visit the Hippodrome see the famous Obelisk from Egypt, a remarkable pink granite monument built 3,500 years ago The Byzantine Hippodrome, with the Obelisk of Theodosius, was brought from Heliopolis, Egypt, and the Serpentine Column from Delphi during the reign of Constantine.
After leaving the Hippodrome, you will finally have the opportunity to do some haggling at the Grand Bazaar, the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is like any bazaar except that, as its explains, it is all within one huge building. Depending on how you measure it, the covered market here could be the largest shopping center in the world, numbering over 4,000 individual shops, you will find among masses of modern trash an approximation of youthful dreams of the glamorous oriental market.

By comparison with other Museums in UK, Europe and USA I rate the Istanbul Archaeology Museum as one of the best museums in the world. IT is currently in renovation so it is only going to get better. The Alexander sarcophagus, sculpted busts, mosaics and cuneiform scripts are as old as I have ever seen. The displays are well done…
Pity they are busy with renovations ….. guess I will have to revisit (and that is not a bad thing!!) We took a slow walk, talked to the cats that were lying idly around, took a couple of pictures and then went for a coffee under the trees.
The tour was a fantastic experience our group made up of cruises from cruse critic all expressed there thanks to our guide who was so knowledgeable on Istanbul.
The Hagia Sophia is impressive and I loved the architecture. However, close to 1/4 of the main hall is under construction. While the natural light which shone through the main hall was amazing…
We visited Istanbul during a Princess Med cruise. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about his country with a great sense of humour, that it made our tour outstanding. Would love to have him again! Thank you so much for making our tour such a wonderful experience!
I have been to the Hagia Sophia a couple of other times this year but was very disappointed this time! Half of the main floor is being renovated and there is no obvious notice of the work when you pay the admission. In addition, the price of admission is the same as it was when there was no renovations!
I had heard so much about Istanbul's Grand Bazaar that perhaps my expectations were too high. Loads of stores, overpriced merchandise, definitely colorful, but nothing unique or unusual that I wished I would have bought. I've been to many bazaars, and this one was certainly not the best.
We went to the Topkapi palace as the first part of our visit for the day. To start with we were told it would only take 2 hours. This is in fact is almost impossible unless you wish to just zip past everything.
Hagia Sophi, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Basilica all in the same vicinity and it is cool to see up to 1000 year or more history in walking distances. IT IS AMAZINGLY beautiful.
Topkapi Palace was one of the first few historical attractions that I visited when I was in Istanbul and I definitely did not regret it.
