The square in front of the Blue Mosque is located on the site of the ancient Hippodrome. No effort is needed to read the history of this place before you take a sit in one of the benches around; then you will appreciate it. It was a centre of the civil activities and social life of the old Constantinople.
Hagia Sophia it's absolutely mind blowing. Marvelous. Personally, the best attraction we visited in Istanbul.
Ok, everybody knows what the grand bazar is so just some hints and tips. For orientation: Up is always south and west.
1. Avoid the "main" entrance from the tram station if possible, the most aggressive vendors wait just outside.
2. Whatever you see there it is on sale and unique and can only be bought in this shop. Wrong…
Grand Bazaar.. It a compulsory trip when visiting Istanbul, but for us, our great expectations were left rather flat. The bazaar is like a large indoor shopping mall, comprised of a very large number of small shops. There is a sterile, soul-less feel to the place.
The Bosphorus Strait is what makes Istanbul Istanbul. Linking the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara and Europe to Asia, the Bosphorus contributed greatly to the rich and varied history of this great and ancient city. At first glimpse the ages, including those of of Jason and Medea, Byzantium, and Constantinople echoed through my head. It is interesting to…
What a perfect way to capture all the beautiful sights of the city, but in cooler months be sure to wrap up warmly!
In the grand bazaar, you can find many things. And out of this many things, 99% of the stuff are stuff that you will not use in your life. These are usually overpriced in the grand bazaar and you will need to have lots of patience to look around to compare prices and negotiate.
The cruise is a nice one for every tourist to take. Although it may not be cheap but then again the experience is worth it! The sceneries are beautiful and while cruising on board, one can enjoy the views of Asian-Middle Eastern influenced buildings on one side and the other side, one can be captured by the European architecture. Not to mention the one and only time one can say “I am at both Asia and Europe at the same time!”
What is more classic to Turkey than Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque? The huge hanging medallions are a sight unto themselves. There's a quiet and a peace here that only hallowed places have. I fall in love with Turkey again every time I walk into this place – six different trips at this point!
The Hagia Sophia is impressive and I loved the architecture. However, close to 1/4 of the main hall is under construction. While the natural light which shone through the main hall was amazing…
