La antigua iglesia de santa sofia o aya sofia es un lugar mut cautivador todo bien…
I had no idea there was so much history to the various suburbs along the Bosphorus. Amazing to see the small cross strait ferries weaving in between the humungous container ships. It's a watery Piccadilly Circus! Do also walk along the shorefront from Dolmabahce towards the cruise ship terminal….the locals lounge around and the kids play in the water.
We did a tour on a private motor boat on the Bosphorus Strait taking in the beautiful scenery on both sides. You get to cruise past some of the most luxurious Ottoman Palaces and see the Rumeli Fortress. Well worth the trip.
We completely enjoyed our day with Taylan, who is Turkish. He was very generous with his time and extremely knowledgable regarding the history as well as cultural and religious aspects of Istanbul and the country of Turkey. He was consciencious and careful to arrive on time with a clean, reliable car and he gave us good advice for the rest of our trip. He extended the tour beyond that which he had offered to show us. Really great!
Took the tram to the last stop and bought tickets for the 1-1/2 hour tour up to the second bridge and back down along the Asian side. Cost was less than $10usd each, which we considered a bargain. You see the rest of Istanbul without cosumeing the whole day.
Definetly a great experience!
Grand bazaar it is the largest covered market of the world. It was built by otoman rulers. It has about 5000 shops. All type of products, especially hand made otoman style jewelry and antique style handicrafts are available. Good shopping skill is required for shopping in this bazar.Bargaining is a routine. You should start 50 % of the asking price !
Hagia Sophia is a must place to visit while you are in Istanbul. It is one of the biggest chrches of Euro -Asia. Depicting the pristine architecturul heritage of the Roman ( Byzentine) empire. The Museum is a historical place .
