There is no evidence that this site was where the Virgin Mary lived, and the sceptic in me immediately thought when seeing it that was remarkably "well preserved". (The current house was built in the modern era). It is indeed a peaceful and beautiful site, however, and as our guide stated, "Well, maybe it is..could be..you never know."
Our tour started off here and I have to say you DO get a special sense of the place. The Pope visited here recently and as the Virgin Mary is tied to St. John there is a chance she did spend out her days here. The Franciscans staff the House and I had a really pleasant chat with a Friar…
Most tours of Ephesus stop off at Mary's house. I am not sure of the validity of the story that Mary, the mother of Jesus was brought here by St John, but it is well worth a visit.
We spent the day in Ephesus with our guide Irem. She was excellent! She went with us in to the sites and explained what we were seeing. Turkey is absolutely beautiful and a place I would love to visit again. We toured the ruins in Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary, and the church of St. John. We could have done without the carpet shop and leather factory, but overall the day was perfect. Our lunch was very good and was included in the price of the tour. I would definitely recommend this for those of you with a one day stop in Turkey on a cruise ship.
If you believe that a bedridden German nun, in the 19th century, had a vision of this place and, later, it was discovered, then you can believe almost anything. The myth behind this is almost comical. It is so commercialized that they have to keep the myth alive.
This site is hyped as 'historical'. It isn't. Save the time and visit Ephesus and the Terrace houses there. They have real history.
We had a very nice lunch there as part of the tour a super experience I highly recommend this tour
Our first ever micro lighting experience and what a place to do it.
We booked the 15min trip which was enough time to get a very different perspective of Ephesus.
I'm an athiest, but I can believe some stuff from the gospels, like the fact that Jesus existed as a person. But I cannot believe that a poor widow from that time lived in a grand stone house like this. And the stories they tell you when you get there about the "miracles" that occurred at this site in the…
Its has fantastic roman ruins and places of religious interest such as this place, the virgin mary's house.Mary was supposed to have gone to live out her life here after the death of christ.
