As a practicing Catholic, this site had much meaning to me. I was doubtful of it at first, as the Catholic church has not yet confirmed the fact that Mary lived there; however, upon going, I was convinced she had. The prayerfulness of the pilgrims and the peacefulness of the location was powerful. Oral tradition in Turkey is quite strong…
The actually house itself is small but it is reverent. Depending on crowds you wont have much time inside and no pictures are allowed inside. Nearby is the spring where water flows from under the house and is considered by some to be holy water.
The group had a great time in Ephesus. In all, this was the most wonderful tour.
The house itself is very small. It has also been re-built almost from the ground up, so you don't know if this is really what it looked like, but there is a definite energy there. Very calming and soothing and to think that Mary was here is just amazing. Go early to avoid the tour buses, if you can!
When visiting this holy site. It is certainly not much to look at for someone coming to see an ancient ruin.
We had a wonderful time and everything was a great.
well worth the money!!!
I arranged a tour before going on a Mediterrian cruise. We did an amazing tour of Ephesus and Sirence village with the lovely and incredibly knowledgeable guide. Thank you for a memorable and informative day!
Photos not allowed. A small chapel. Good but nothing more. I expected something better.
A wall where you can leave a paper with your need written on it. A
The thing I enjoyed the most was the peace at the chapel.
We went to Meryemana when the Catholic mass was being held, which just made it more special for us. Despite the crowds, it's a tranquil and peaceful place. We went there a bit skeptical, expecting a very commercialised attraction. While there are fees charged to visit, its made clear that these are imposed by the city of Selcuk.
