Lovely chapel on the foundation of the place that is believed to be Mary's last place of residence. Many people visit and it can get crowed but usually moves quickly. Head covering is required in the chapel.
amazing tour we loved it. our guide spoke great english, told us the history of ephesus and artemis also he was able to answer all of our questions he was very helpful at the ephesus and we thoroughly enjoyed the ephesus tour.
Though the church is a rebuilt structure on the base of an old structure, it is beautifully done. The church is small and packed with tourists, but most manage to stay respectfully quiet. It was actually nice seeing a group of rowdy schoolchildren fall silent when they entered the house.
After visiting Ephesus, we took a taxi to The Virgin Mary's House. The grounds were peaceful with very few people visiting. It was close to 6:00 in the evening. We arrived as the priest was saying mass, he was assisted by a nun.
my children and I had a great time thank you
While quite small, a visit to the house of The Virgin Mary instills awe, even for a non-Christian. The grounds surrounding the house afford visitors the opportunity to gather their own holy water, and to leave messages/prayers, as well.
And we fell for it. No matter if Virgin Mary lived there or not, the place looses its charm by all the touristy stuff you find around. A cafe, souvenir shops, no pictures allowed, and a home turned chapel.
Another one of the ruins is another must see, albeit very small, its also steeped in so much history, you must see everything when you go to Ephesus.
Most of the reviews are from people who make no effort , but to join in the buses or day trips of the tourists. If you wish to experience the "awe" of the Marys Mountian retreat arrive before 6:30 am.
