A feeling comes over you that is unique and uplifting. So it was for me at the "The Virgin Mary's House" despite the fact that I am not particularily religious.
We went here as part of a cruise excursion and really enjoyed it. It was very pretty and the story behind its discovery is very interesting.
The shrine has a small altar where the brass image of the Virgin Mary is enshrined . For peoples who acknowledges the role of the Virgin Mary in salvation of mankind a visit to her house is an honor. knowing and believing that She lived there , imagining Her moving around the small place.
We used this tour instead of booking a tour through the cruise company. We had a half day tour of the ruins of Ephesus and The Virgin Mary’s house. We were also taken to a carpet maker to see how carpets were made and lunch. The carpet demonstration was interesting however, I did feel uncomfortable not making a purchase.
