Wonderful place with wonderful people! Very extreme, a piece of the ancient times. Not so hard walking to the top, cca 500 meters long to 2000meters high. Look around, amazing!
Balikli Gol is wonderful with sunset, especially when it is Ramadan. Stay there for an hour, to watch the people feeding the fish, to see the children playing and to see the mosks with the wonderful light of the sunset.
We drove to Nemrut (on a really dodgy winding road for five hours from Sanliurfa) but it was well worth it to watch the sunrise at 5am. I have never seen anything more beautiful. It was truly amazing but only bearable if you wear loads of layers, woolly hat, gloves and a blanket 🙂
Mount Nemrut is well a visit of its own. With a fabulous setting, besides the sculptures, it offers spectacular views both at sunrise and sunset. Definetely must visit it!
Getting up at 2.30 am, and then climbing up a steep hill at 4.30 in bitter cold wind is quite hard but it's certainly worth it. The sunrise on Mount Nemrut is amazing and seeing how the colours of the statues change as the sun goes higher and higher is a sight you won't forget.
We visited Mt. Nemrut at sunrise, so we arrived to the place when it was still dark. Going up is a small hike but not strenuous, the last part just got really windy. Remember to dress in warm clothes and bring a hat (that won't fly away).
Nemrut Mountain and the god/godness sculptures on the the top of it are at the list of Unesco’s World Heritage. The King of Komagene has built these sculptures here in order to let the sun go down and up under their feet. The graves of the king and his family is also at the top of this mountain. You must see the sunrise or sunset once in your life from here and feel it under your feet. Take a bottle of wine with you and enjoy.
One does wonder why this magnificent piece of human history does not attract more attention. The hilltop cumulus with human size statues, geometric plan and the seemingly impossible amount of stones and rocks piled up there to build it, is otherworldly.
Once in a lifetime experience…adventurous, breathtaking, enlightening! SO worth the task involved in arriving for sunrise.
One of the experiences that is diffucult to describe. This place is sacred, historical and touching your soul. You would dive into old arabic times and will feel the history.
