We visited Mt. Nemrut at sunrise, so we arrived to the place when it was still dark. Going up is a small hike but not strenuous, the last part just got really windy. Remember to dress in warm clothes and bring a hat (that won’t fly away). We visited in July and it was nearly 50C down there but the mountain itself was still freezing cold.
The sunrise was pretty but remember to look at the statues. They change color at sunrise. The place is very special but just a little warning: the statues (well, the heads of the statues) are actually not that big and the ones seen on photos are on the other, sunset side. You can visit both sides, so you will see them all.
I would probably not go there again but the once in a lifetime experience was great!
Dress in layers and bring a blanket or rent one for 5 TL there! It’s a beautiful place..
The most beatiful scenes I have ever seen, the monuments of craddle in anatolia about 5000 years ago with huge monuments.
It is amazing to see this temple on top of this mountain. It was a challenge for us to get there, and is hard to imagine someone building this more than 5000 years ago. The view of the Euphrates valley and the fertile crescent are amazing. We went from Sanliurfa and the roads were very poor, but the views and the shepherds and cattle herders we saw made it very much worth it. I totally reccommend seeing the top of the mountain, even if you do not make the sunrise, as it truly is a beautiful place.
It was a fantastic experience. To go up at night and watch the sunset, just next to the grave of several Mesopotamia Kings… was fantastic.
I took a lot of great pics there…
Kommagene kingdom and their sculptures.
The stone headed sculptures are so beautiful to view during early morning sunrise.
Although we have to get up as early as 3am, it is worth a visit!
One of the best places to see and explore, visit the cave of Abraham, the hill top fortress, the Bazaars, definitly a good walking discovery place.
If you are looking for a truly unique experience, the Ambraham path will provide everything you need and more: nice scenery, impressive historical sights, and undiscovered places. But truly unforgettable are the beautiful hospitable families you meet during the trip. Recommended to every traveler looking for something truly different!
We drove for 8 hours from Cappadocia to Mt Nemrut, stopping for lunch first and then the Tumulus of Karakus, Cendere Bridge, and the ruins of Arsaemia along the way. As you can tell from the pictures, the heads of the gods on top of the mountain are amazing.
It was a wonderful and awesome experience I will never forget! The food was to die for, the people in the village were kind and fun to talk to, and the trail was excellent, even in its early stages of development. I'd love to hike the entire trail some day!
