The trail is 14 km long and the popular way to is walk 4 km till you reach Belisirma – a restaurant. It's beautiful with the Melendez river flowing next to the trail and mountains beyond. The trail is dotted with beautiful flora. Not much of a climb compared to the other attractions (unlike the Sumeli monastery).
Agzikarahan Caravanserai have been built and used since the 10th century. These buildings provided accommodation and other amenities for the merchants and stabling for their animals. Inside each caravanserai there was also a small mosque for their religious services.
During the times of Seljuk Sultans Kilicarslan II and Alaaddin Keykubat I, the construction of these buildings increased. Merchants of all nationalities were put in the caravanserais with food and beverage all free of charge up to three nights. They could get their shoes repaired. New shoes were given to the poor, and treatment was available for the sick. If the merchants were robbed, the loss of the trades would be compensated by the states. It was the first insurance system in the world.
One of the nicest things we did in this area. Highly recommend renting a car and doing it on your own as the tours can get long. A car offers you much more freedom. The hike is wonderful and the churches very interesting. Don't forget to stop at the monastery on the way out of town.
We were blown away by Selime Monastery. The cave churches were so well-preserved and fun to explore, and since it was off the beaten path, we enjoyed it much more than the Göreme Open-Air Museum. Definitely worth the trip.
the scenery was truly incredible and the people were great. These are different kinds of tourists and travelers than you see in other parts of Turkey. There is much history here, and the food is great. The ferry chimneys are very interesting
Very small church between Goreme and the Open Air Museum. Simple and lovely. Good condition. Walls still clear. There was a concierge with key who let us in and showed us round so not sure if he's there all the time, he also seemed to be a tour guide.
Very unique experience that you can't get anywhere else.
Capadocia fue una experiencia inolvidable la verdad que quedamos muy satisfechos con el tour privado que nos vendieron
We spent three days in this area. It is truly spectacular. There are many things to do and see. The balloon flights are fabulous. Pictures do no do them justice, The cave ruins and underground cities really make you think and picture how early civilization lived.
It was simply great to walk around the historical places, especially in such unusual, and incredible nature, to see the dedication, devotion and perseverance of early Christian monks.
