- Guests must be able to walk approximately 2.5 miles. Comfortable shoes, a hat and plenty of sunscreen are recommended as shade is limited.

Amazing, kind and friendly staff. Really cool hotel- never been a cave hotel before! A unique experience. Fast wireless. Beautiful view. In the city center, close to great restaurants and reasonably priced and local products shopping.
Starting at Ihlara is the valley following the river north as far as a village called Selime, passing through another called Belisirma, where many, as did I, choose to stop.
The walk itself is very easy and quite relaxing. Just you, the river and the valley walls on either side. Taking it slow it took about 2.5-3hrs from Ihlara to Belisirma.
It is really worth seeing. Restroom facilities at the entry are limited and very crowded. There are also restrooms near the exit and they are not crowded.
If you have time, you can take a few days to truly experience this beautiful walk.

Our hotel offered day tours involving some hiking plus a visit to this underground city, however we are not big on organised tours preferring to do our own thing. We caught a small dolmus to Nevsehir (not the Otogar)- instead on the main street. The conductor on the bus told us where to get off in the township.
Derinkuyu was amazing. You have to be ready to bend and walk through tunnels for this attraction. It’s really fascinating to know the stories behind this attraction so be sure to go in a guided tour.
The Goreme National Park, or Goreme Open-Air Museum, is really a wonder. The scenery seems out of this planet, and the cave churches are really beautiful, especially the Dark Chapel with its breathtaking frescos.
