Turkey, wedged between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean with the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers flowing through it to Iraq, as often mentioned in the Bible, is a Cradle of Civilization and an important center of trade.
The land now called Turkey played a major role in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. The birthplace of the Christian Church may be Jerusalem, but Turkey is where the Church first thrived. Three great Apostles, Paul, Peter and John, are all linked with churches in Minor Asia (today’s Turkey). Approximately two-thirds of the 27 books in the New Testament were written to or from churches in Turkey.

This is an amazing underground city to visit and well worth the time. Looking out over the valley was truly amazing seeing the rock forms of Cappadoccia is a great sight to see.
The open-air museum is a great way to get initiated to Cappadocia as you’ll get a historical, cultural context of the landscape. It’s a good 2-hour excursion of exploring all the dwellings and churches. Try to go either in the beginning/end of the day as the sun is quite harsh. Bring lots of sunscreen/water and wear comfortable shoes.
We was tipped of this place by a danish speaking tour guide in Göreme, that we by chance met for a cup of tea. He directed us there with instructions for getting hold of Ishan. Exciting historical place,go and visit it.The guide we had were really good and told us the history in a very interesting way.
If you are into Christian history or just plain history, Cappadocia-Goreme Open Air Museum of caves is a must see. Like the “Footsteps of Paul”, this tour is breath-taking.
If you are in Cappadocia you should not miss Goreme Open Air Museum. The churches & dwellings built into the hillsides have to be seen to be believed. I had no idea at all what to expect, and I was bowled over by it. I took hundreds of photos. Provides a real insight into Turkish Christian history.
