Antalya is a city on the Mediterranean coast of southwestern Turkey. It is Turkey’s biggest international sea resort, located on the Turkish Riviera.
In 2011 the city had a population of 964,886 and the metropolitan municipality 1,041,972. Antalya was the world’s fourth most visited city by number of international arrivals in 2011, with 10.5 million annual visitors. Most of these tourists were changing planes or moving between the airport and the cruise lines.
Antalya,
shoppers paradise nice sea view cafes toilets are turkish style charge 1 tl coin to use hairdressers very very good and cheap things to do get a haircut or dye shop for bargains
Stone and shingle beach – not sand. Which is OK but it does get deep very quickly with altering currents!!
We really enjoyed going for a walk in the old town and the views from the main road leading upto to it of the old roof tops and coast, with minarets and palm trees.
Also took the kids for a meal at McDonalds right near the entry to Kaleici which made a difference from the hotel buffets.
Very nice walk during the evening hours, cozy resturants and nice little shops. The shop owners are freindly and not pushy like those in the bazaar. Make sure you have enough water with you druing thr day time hours.
If you are in Antalya definitely visit Konyaalti. The beach that you can find many different people.
When you arrive in Old City Kaleici you will see the clock tower. It is not much as far as a tour destination but, helps when you get lost in the winding streets of Kaleici just look up and try to find it for your direction.
Antalya harbour for us was the highlight of our 'Antalya Discovered' trip which we booked through our rep.
It was very 'picture pretty' and when getting close to the waters it was clear as a bell being able to see all the fish.
We walked down the old houses which we thought would be like York's Shambles only to find…
was ok was expecting better sights organised trip was ok but didnt like been taken to expensive jewelry place and leather goods place and seeing fashion show
Downtown Kaleici is essentially one giant street market of shoes, clothes and other stuff. Do not fall for the Brands – 99% of the stuff is fake (and I am not sure about the other 1% either…)
Never accept the first price offered as bargaining is part of the concept.
If you find prices cheap for something with a hip…
Take the old tram if you are on the other side. Then it is a walk down (a did see buses too though). A pebble beach but quite comfortable for a few hours in the sun. Popular with the locals and perfect for a sunny day.
