We had limited time in Istanbul whilst on a cruise so we decided on a full day Istanbul Highlights tour.. We covered all the major sights in one day and it was a very good introduction to the city. We enjoyed our day in this fascinating city and hope to return someday and spend more time in Istanbul.
The Grand Bazaar is an overstimulating labyrinth of endless shops…
I couldn't imagine going to Istanbul and not going to Topkapi Palace. Allow several hours at least or even longer and enjoy a lunch in the palace or take a sandwich and have a picnic on the lawns. It is simply amazing. make sure you see it all.
Topkapi Palace it's absolutely a must-see site in Istanbul. The Palace is impressive with its different rooms and pavilions, and its lovely gardens. Do not miss the Harem which required a different entry ticket.
The tours arranged for us to be picked up at the airport on our arrival in Istanbul, taken on a 3-4 hour “lay of the land” tour of Istanbul (We had previously seen the major sights) and then dropped off at the cruise terminal to begin our cruise. Everything couldn’t have gone smoother. It was a very positive experience. Highly recommended!
Basilica Cistern is a remarkable underground cavern, right in the middle of the Sultanahmet district of Istanbul. Gigantic columns, with two having the heads of Medusa carved into them support the roof of this enormous room. People walk over it all day long in the heart of the city with no idea. Highly recommended..
Oh my! This is so unbelievable! The views from here are worth the price of admission alone. Be sure to pay extra to visit the harem. And, save time for the rare jewels and swords. It is utterly fantastic!

From lanterns to Turkish delight to rugs to toys and spices, the Grand Bazaar was both beautiful, the colour and life you'd expect from a bustling bazaar and had a great range of items to choose from. Careful not to get lost as it's quite big!
Basilica Cistern is..awesome place to visit. Everyone should go visit this while in Istanbul. You need to read the new Dan Brown book Inferno before you go. It will make it much more interesting.
