The area where the house is located is beautiful. The bus made the up hill trip with ease. Guest have the option of attending mass or touring the grounds. The house is small and made of stone, no pictures are allowed to be taken inside the house. Guest can light candles, get water from a spring and leave a prayer…
For those who are christian and those whose teachings believe in the significance of Mary, this is a great site to visit. It is not for those looking for ancient ruins. It is a spiritual place for believers. It is a small unpretentious building that gives you an opportunity to reflect on your faith. It will hold a different meaning…
We spent a good amount of time at ancient ephesus and house of terraces and I can tell you, a private tour is the way to go. There were many group tours that would crowd around their guide to get a glimpse of what he/she was pointing out. With a private tour, you are able to set the pace with your guide and skip what you aren’t that interested in. We also visited the House of the St Mary, Temple of Artemis. It was a full day that did not disappoint and well worth the expense.
We had a wonderful trip and would definitely recommend
Recently went to Virgin Mary's House before going to Ephesus. The visit may not be everybody's everyone liking as the house is a small church that one walks through. Should you decide to go and visit – make sure that you have a pen and paper with you because as you leave you can leave a note on the wall…
Regards to Yesim and many thanks for a super day.
I booked a private tour for 8 people for a one day cruise stop in November, at the port of izmir my booking was done through email.
The tour of the Ancient City of Ephesus and the Terrace houses was incredible. A fabulous day! Thank you.
If you can fit this site in during a tour of Ephesus, I think it's worth a quick stop. Especially if you can get here before the big tour busses arrive and the area becomes overwhelmed with tourists. If the big tour busses have already arrived, I'm not sure that I'd recommended stopping here.
I'm not particularly religious but enjoyed…
Meryemana, or the House of Mother Mary, like the locals call, is an emotional place to visit, specially for Catholics. The place is quite simple, it is just a small house, but you feel thrilled to know that you are in the place where the Mother of Jesus Christ spent her last days, together with Saint Jonh, the Apostle!
