What is amazing is the way one can almost walk through the streets of the city and imagine how the city was organised in those time by seeing the ruins on both sides.
It was a great day with so much to see in such a beautiful, clean city!
Our guide was a great guide full of historical knowledge as well as answering questions about the land and people.
I especially liked the little village Sirence that we visited. The people were so friendly and the village gave us the opportunity to purchase gifts to take home that were handmade.
O me, the atmosphere there in Hagia Sophia so special, sacred, fair… Right now, there are huge scaffolds standing in there on the left side, which is a bit of a pity for those who cannot come like twice a year..
Another popular stop on the Cappadocia Tours is Devrent Valley. The “fairy chimneys” come in a variety of sizes and shapes, some spires, some mushrooms, some, um, other things. Devrent features “the camel” as well as many other structures. You can make up your own names for them if you like. It’s part of the fun.
I don't understand why this Dolmabahce palace is ranked so low amongst Istanbul attractions. To me it was one of the highlights of my trip. The queuing was annoying, especially in 30 degree heat. No individual visits are allowed so you have to queue in the sun until they are ready to start the tour.
A visit to the Hagia Sophia museum was a great first site to visit in Istanbul – it laid the history of the city's history and the muslim influence – it also provided more information about the muslim culture. Beautiful museum. Lots of restoration work but still able to see majority.
The tour guide picked us up at our hotel, surprisingly on time. We went through all the most important sites in the Old City including Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Topkapi Palace + Harem. He was well informed and you could tell that he genuinely enjoys his job. I would recommend to everyone! They are timely, flexible, and very accommodating.
Our guide was truly a blessing! She was knowledgeable and easy to understand. The vehicle we used was beautiful and very comfortable.
We were only in Istanbul for one day, but thanks to the excellent work of our tour guide Gokhan our party of eight was able to get a real taste of the city. Can’t wait to go back and spend more time in this fascinating place.
The Hippodrome was first built in AD 203 by the Roman Emperor Septimus Severus when the city was called Byzantium. The arena was used for chariot races and other entertainments. Throughout the Byzantine period, the Hippodrome was the centre of the city's social life. Huge amounts were bet on chariot races.
