The Bosphorus Bridge, is one of two suspension bridges spanning the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey; thus connecting Europe and Asia. The bridge is located between Ortaköy (on the European side) and Beylerbeyi (on the Asian side).
It is a gravity anchored suspension bridge with steel towers and inclined hangers. The aerodynamic deck hangs on zigzag steel cables. It is 1,560 m (5,118 ft)[1] long with a deck width of 33.40 m. The distance between the towers (main span) is 1,074 m and the total height of the towers is 165 m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m.
The Bosphorus Bridge had the 4th longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1973, and the longest outside the United States. At present, it is the 21st longest suspension bridge span in the world.
Bosphorus Bridge,
Very beautiful and attractive view at the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul. It is one of the most important landmarks of this big city. I visit this bridge every time I come to Istanbul.
Not much to say about bridges: they get you from point A to point B and back again. This one joins two continents and two halves of a city on two continents. I have not been on it but have been beneath it on a cruise ship and most recently on a dinner cruise. While it is not the prettiest…
Another nice view of Istanbul City, what a pity you can not take a walk on the bridge itself, crossing from Europe to Asia or the other way around. (I head that now they will let people walk on it??)
It is a nice place unless you are on rush hour.
It is like the Golden Gate Bride in San Francisco but it has more lights at night time, so I would suggest to see it at the night time as well.
One of the best places in Istanbul . It links two continents. Fantastic and must see !
Try to see the amazing light show that the bridge displays at night. Not only range of colours but also patterns – one that even looks like falling rain.
Istanbul has a problem, its traffic jams never stop! But if you can watch the stream of lights crossing the Bosphorus Bridge from a riverside restaurant as we were priviledged to do, then you realise why the Turks of Istanbul are rightly proud of this feat of engineering.
The Bridge has really good landspace to all istanbul…Nowadays, around 180,000 vehicles pass daily in both directions, almost 85% being automobiles.
You can not walk on the bridge unfortunatelly, thats why you have to use trasportations or your car for going on the bridge..Have to see there if you are in İstanbul
I travel over the bridge twice everyday. It sounds regualr for us people living here in this city. But hey: you are crossing over the two CONTINENTS via the bridge and the view of Istanbul is amazing at all times of the day! Better be there at least once in your life.
When you come to Istanbul you must cross The Bosphorus Bridge. It's amazing. You start from Asia and end up in Europe or vise versa. It's a nice experience. If the weather is bright, the view will be spectacular. You can't walk on it except special organisations, like a marathon. However taking a taxi or bus will be fine. Beware…
