The Bosphorus Bridge, is one of two suspension bridges spanning the Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey; thus connecting Europe and Asia. The bridge is located between Ortaköy (on the European side) and Beylerbeyi (on the Asian side).
It is a gravity anchored suspension bridge with steel towers and inclined hangers. The aerodynamic deck hangs on zigzag steel cables. It is 1,560 m (5,118 ft)[1] long with a deck width of 33.40 m. The distance between the towers (main span) is 1,074 m and the total height of the towers is 165 m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m.
The Bosphorus Bridge had the 4th longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed in 1973, and the longest outside the United States. At present, it is the 21st longest suspension bridge span in the world.
Bosphorus Bridge,
Bosphorus bridge is only one in its class, by connecting 2 continens: Europe and Asia. A fully computerized LED lighting system of changing colours and patterns, developed by Philips, illuminates the bridge at night.
It is a huge bridge that connects east and west. Best seen by boat. It has nice light-effects at night.
some people love the "colorful" view at night but i find it cheeky. can be watch from Aşk cafe if necessary.
The huge suspension bridge over the Bosphorus is a great landmark of the modernization and the urban expansion of the contemporary Istanbul. Beautiful from any angle, we´ve passed under it in a boat trip and we also had the opportunity to enjoy great views as we passed over it on a bus tour.
Since we knew someone who could take us there, so we went to see it in a car. Otherwise I think its hard to go there, since you have to change a couple of buses/ trams. Good architecture, but too much traffic!!
Day or night you can't miss it, its like the SAn Francisco bridge, its one of Istanbul main landmarks.
In one second you'r in Europe, second moment puf you're in Asia. It was a unique feeling to pass from a continent to another in a few moments.
I like this bridge so I went there four times.
1st by bus, passing on top of the bridge, 2nd I tried to walk across the bridge but cops didn't allow me, 3rd I walked under the bridge and 4th using the boats on Bosporous.
Obviously the best one was the last one.
We stayed on the Galata Tower side of the water so found ourselves walking across the bridhe often. We'd ride the tunnel up but walk down and acriss yhd bridge bith coming and going.
Our favorite part was the fush sandwiches right at ghe base of the tower side. 5TL and were they yummy. No hard sell just good eating….
Best viewed from the water when on a ferry. This bridge lungs the east and west, Asia and Europe.
