Uchisar is a small village of Cappadocia that has some of the most luxurious hotels in the region. It is located close to Goreme Open Air Museum and can be explored within a day or will serve well as an ideal base to explore beautiful Cappadocia.
Uchisar is very hilly and those with walking difficulties will find problems on steep streets and hills. From the top of Uchisar is the castle and one of the most magnificent views of the landscape. Walking around Uchisar will bring a smile to your face as you come across the unique police station and quiet cafes that are located in caves.
From the heights of the Uçhisar citadel, you have a magnificent and unrivaled view of the whole region.
Uçhisar Castle / Landlord’s Castle, (The big rock on top of the hill in Uçhisar). The view from the top of this massive rock with a number of rooms carved into it is well worth the price of admission. The path to the top is strenuous but short, mostly stairs and relatively safe. 5 TL. edit
There are also many similar hand carved rooms and tunnels you can explore in the nearby Pigeon valley. Less stairs, perhaps less safe.
Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia,
Castel was simple and great. You walk up and see an amazing view of the entire region. Uchisar is a great town with high end meal options in the cave hotels facing the Pigeon Valley as well as an excellent dirt cheap Pizza place in town — great 1 hour excursion with a nice entry way for a 2 hour…
Not a lot to see. There is a cemetery that elucidates different religions burial; greek houses and their differences and some narrow streets to walk by. Once you hear about Turkish revolution in 1923 it is going to be a bit more interesting.
By night there is a Turkish night presentation in a restaurant that though cheesy worths it.
I suppose that this may be a unique type of castle. But it looked more like a high-rise apartment building!
amazed at the intellect of people living in that era
Climb up to the top to have a fantastic bird's eye view of Goreme and the surrounding scenery. To avoid the hordes of Turkish schoolkids, visit during the weekdays.
You have to make this climb at sunset for a fabulous overview of Cappadocia and an introduction to Turkish life. We were surrounded by friendly young Turks who wanted to practice their English and share their snacks. We took pictures of them and they took pictures of us. Wonderful experience.
This castle show Man made rock curved houses inside mountains
Well worth the climb which wasn't that hard. Our kids 5 and 8 and their grandmother 77 had no problem climbing to the top, I'm glad we went here and Uchisar is a charming little place. You could buy a cup of coffee (and other things to drink) at the top.
The town of Uchisar is visible from the roadway below and looks like a Steven Spielberg movie set, but the walk up through the "castle" doesn't pay off with views much better than you can get from virtually anywhere else. There are no furnishings to see…just more rock.
a great place to climb and enjoy the afternoon and watch the sunset..
