Uchisar is a small village of Cappadocia that has some of the most luxurious hotels in the region. It is located close to Goreme Open Air Museum and can be explored within a day or will serve well as an ideal base to explore beautiful Cappadocia.
Uchisar is very hilly and those with walking difficulties will find problems on steep streets and hills. From the top of Uchisar is the castle and one of the most magnificent views of the landscape. Walking around Uchisar will bring a smile to your face as you come across the unique police station and quiet cafes that are located in caves.
From the heights of the Uçhisar citadel, you have a magnificent and unrivaled view of the whole region.
Uçhisar Castle / Landlord’s Castle, (The big rock on top of the hill in Uçhisar). The view from the top of this massive rock with a number of rooms carved into it is well worth the price of admission. The path to the top is strenuous but short, mostly stairs and relatively safe. 5 TL. edit
There are also many similar hand carved rooms and tunnels you can explore in the nearby Pigeon valley. Less stairs, perhaps less safe.
Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia,
your guide might not take you there, but ask him to! it's an surreal place, you'll walk through the caves as you climb up to the highest peak in the region. the views from the top are breathtaking! it's really worth it.
There isn't really much in Uchisar, apart from the guy who charges one lira to take a picture of his camel. But the "castle" is worth ten minutes of your time if only to try a comprehend it. Rising high above the smaller cave dwellings, it is an ancient skyscraper with caves dug in to it high above the ground….
Its a great old castle withe greatest view from top of it.
You can see Erciyes mountain from top of the castle.
Definitely must-see and visit place.
Beautiful views from the top, but the place needs some maintenance. It is place in a town called Uchisar, very nice for spending 2 hours max.
Uchisar Castle is a huge rock just a few km from Goreme – criss-crossed with rooms, tunnels etc. It is easy to understand why it must have been so important in the past – it can be seen from all around the area (it features on a lot of photos you take – even if you didn't notice at the…
can even walk part way up to get better views – which is really why you would climb this castle for the vista.
We didn't do a balloon but instead opted for climbing Uchisar! We were a little disappointed that there were not many interior rooms to explore, but the view is well worth the climb.
5 TL the entrance but it's really worth a visit. the inner side is almost empty but the view you'll have from the very top of this rocky castle will pay you all the steps you ll have to climb. amazing
The structure itself is incredible, and the views are amazing! Learning about the history of the castle, especially during the Byzantine empire is quite a trip, and the views across the valleys of Cappadocia are unsurpassed!
The view from the top of the castle is amazing. Go there on the end of the day and enjoy the sunset. There is a square on entrance where you can have tea or coffee while wait to climb the steps
