Uchisar is a small village of Cappadocia that has some of the most luxurious hotels in the region. It is located close to Goreme Open Air Museum and can be explored within a day or will serve well as an ideal base to explore beautiful Cappadocia.
Uchisar is very hilly and those with walking difficulties will find problems on steep streets and hills. From the top of Uchisar is the castle and one of the most magnificent views of the landscape. Walking around Uchisar will bring a smile to your face as you come across the unique police station and quiet cafes that are located in caves.
From the heights of the Uçhisar citadel, you have a magnificent and unrivaled view of the whole region.
Uçhisar Castle / Landlord’s Castle, (The big rock on top of the hill in Uçhisar). The view from the top of this massive rock with a number of rooms carved into it is well worth the price of admission. The path to the top is strenuous but short, mostly stairs and relatively safe. 5 TL. edit
There are also many similar hand carved rooms and tunnels you can explore in the nearby Pigeon valley. Less stairs, perhaps less safe.
Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia,
We were taken here by our guide for 10 minutes to take pictures during our north Cappadocia tour. We weren't given a chance to climb up. Our guide explained that the castle was used for defense purposes, since it was the highest point of the city. As you can tell from the pictures, this is not a traditional castle.
The Uchisar castle is one of the high place in Cappadocia. It gives you a great opportunity to have a 360 degree views of the valleys. The castle itself is somewhat impressive due to all the holes that were carved but it is not the most amazing place that you will visit in Cappadocia. If you go, go late to…
the cappadocchia region was the best and CCr spa hotel was the cherry topping on the cake…grt hotel and a greater spa.worth revisiting again just to stay here again''''
What a way to defend yourself, rather, have to virtually not bother to defend yourselves 🙂 Stunnning.
The view from the top is great, but that's not the most amazing thing about Uchisar castle. Talk to the old man who sells juice at the top of the castle; not only can he regale you with tales of the castle, he can lead you on an amazing adventure exploring the tunnels below the castle.
Just a short climb away, you will get amazing views. You can leave the car just by the entrance, not having to climb all the village… There´s an entrance fee. Not much to see there, but great view.
A very interesting castle with great views of the surrounding area at the top. Quite safe to walk to the top, first part of the ascent is inside the castle, the last part is on the outside using steps and path. There are some areas around the edge of the castle cordoned off for safety but in general its fine to walk…
not much in the castle except a climb to top to see Goreme and surrounding areas from the top. I wouldn't really call it a castle – since there's nothing in the structure itself to see.
Beautiful place to appreciate the "architecture" of Cappadocia and the different kinds of stones mixed in the cave houses.
As we were staying right next to the castle, in CCR it was nice to just walk up there in the evenings or early mornings. but I wouldnt make a special trip for it. its close to the pigeon valley .
