The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.

The Grand Canyon of Turkey. It's not that deep, but it is fantastic. The walk from one end to the other (14 kilometers) goes by quicker than you think. Bring water, good shoes, and an extra SDM Card for the camera. Several churches built into the stone walls and the dove cotes add flair.
On the top 10 places to visit in Turkey. A balloon ride is excellent way to see the area.
Everything about the cave dwellings in all of the places in Cappadoccia make the trip worthwhile. Amazing history and great tour guides in the area.
You are like in another world, this is an entire village that housed people from the early days and they were moved within the last century.
Ihlara valley and to the Derinkuyu Underground City the day before visiting the open air museum, so in comparison the open air museum was not quite so interesting. I would suggest making the open air museum your first stop in Goreme. It is still an interesting place to check out.
despite the crowds, it is a very pleasant place to visit.
The grounds are sandy and hilly, so do wear proper footwear.
Do shell out the extra TL8 to visit the Dark Church. It is worth it.
Simply.. there is no words to explain how beautiful, peaceful and calm this place is! how royal and miraculous! you must visit uchisar!
WE went to Belek because we wanted to visit cappadocia and you can go from belek on this tour.
if anyone is thinking of visiting cappadocia dont hesitate just go you wont be dissapointed,it is unbelievable worth every penny
It's not that interesting, probably not worth a visit unless its part of your tour package already. There is not a lot of information on site, so we had a tour guide who gave us very basic information but otherwise it's not all that.
Amazing churches and frescoes, definitely a must visit. I walked from the Kelebek hotel, about 30 minutes door to door. Also has a nice museum shop.
