The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.

Amazing cave constructions representative of the Cappadochia area, which look like giant termite hills or a primitive Hawa Mahal! Churches and cave paintings also aplenty!
Pigeon Valley is beautiful and we where looking forward to hike from Uçhisar to Göreme and visit Hasan's after reading reviews. Unfortunately we didn't read the once about getting lost…
Very close to Goreme, easy to walk there. Beautiful hills and fairy chimneys and the chance to see hot air balloons filling the sky (if you're up early enough for the am flights or the timing is right for a sunset flight on a clear day). Ends at Uchisar, a small hilltop town with the ruins of an ancient castle.
Be sure to wear walking shoes. It's a bit of a climb. The frescoes in the dark church was the highlight. There is a separate entry for this church but pay up! It's worth it.
Our favourite church was the Apple church. Wait til the groups have passed and spend some time in the quiet just enjoying the splendid detail.
Trails in and out of the valley are everywhere, there are billions of rocks to climb and cave structures to explore, and the view of Uchisar Castle is AMAZING! Definitely go!
There is a slight incline while walking to the Museum from the center of town, but it is absolutely beautiful. Be sure to catch the litttle cave church fter you exit. Where shoes that can handle loose soil and steep paths, stairs and narrow entries. The visit took us about 2 hours and was a very memorable pard of our…
We decided to head from Uçhisar back to Goreme via the Pigeon Valley, since it was a pleasant warm day and we had plenty of time. We had different opinions by locals about how hard it would be. Some said impossible, others said pretty easy, some said medium. We decided to go anyway.
This whole are is a fun and exicting area to explore, and very unique, some level of fitness would be a good, but there are areas you can easly stroll through.
it's unbelievable place, make such place in those time where fits 20 000 person with their horses?
it's great work and visit isn't expensive just 15lire
