The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
We spend few days at goreme !!!!!!! the village is so nice, and you an find very nice restaurants .
we tried this one at the main road ,were they brake the pot and they serve your meal !!!!!
very interesting and unusual !!!!
But the amazing was the balloons in the morning !!!!DONT MISSED IT the morning light is something…
We had the 7 km route and finished the 14 km around 3,5 hours visiting churches , taking photos and chill out.
Yilanli church is quite interesting, the canyon's panorama is amazing. We had a great time..
The Dark Church alone is worth fighting the crowds to see. We waited for about 5 minutes to enter the dark church, as they limit the amount of people allowed in at a time and then usher you out after a few minutes, so others can come in. It's really not as bad as it seems, but I can see…
It was the best of the valleys in Goreme. There is a petra style church installation of some antiquity and some unrestored church with frescoes in good repair. One turkish lire to get in. Almost nobody goes here. The frescos were amazing to see.
Great experience to imagine thousands of people living it caves carved into the cliffs. Spaced over 3 valleys, the settlement is a great way to spend 90 minutes.
I'm a strong hiker and I did nothing but hike for 2 entire days in this area, and my mind was continually blown away by the amazing and surreal panoramic landscapes. This is definitely one of the most special places on earth and I've never had this much fun exploring a natural area.
Keep in mind that the signage in…
There arebother sights more worth your time. Don't let the camel rides sucker you into setting on them. They are very expensive and confrontational.
Well you will come close to the actual caves now. Basically this museum is about the original caves which was used for hiding by christian centuries back. they have Fresco paintings in caves which was used as church . prayer room etc. there is also a kitchen and a dining room .
its good as you get a taste that…
Signage to this site is virtually non-existant and there are two parking lots. The upper lot is closer to the entrance but only holds about ten cars. Go right at opening so you can be ahead of the tours. Because you must enter the different caves, getting behind a tour can delay you 10-15 minutes for each exhibit but they…
Definitely a must-visit site in Cappadocia. Some of the most interesting cave buildings around. Try not to go in the morning when all the tour buses arrive at once and the place is overrun. Many caves require you to climb steps and you end up waiting as those who have been up comes down.
