The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
There are 4 entrances to Ihlara valley. The first one is at the start of the valley in Ihlara Village. The second one opens to the 4th kilometer of the valley and it is the most popular entrance, and has more than 300 steps down to the valley.
Fairy chimneys all around and all natural stones. Very scenic. Churches are built in the caves itself. A place to visit at Cappodocia

Wonderful Caverns, small caverns and feeling how the old people lived underground. Wow, this was an amazing place, loved it!!!
P.S. Do not stay underground more than 30 min. orelse you might end up having eye problems at the surface. Have a nice trip!!
The fiascoes on the walls inside the churches are amazing! Quite an experience to witness how the Christians lived so long ago!
A lot of the enjoyment I had in this area was during a hot air balloon ride – you'll never see anything quite like it. We all thought it was worth every cost and effort, including getting up well before dawn. I recommend a balloon ride!
This site attracts most of the tour buses and frustrating crowds made this a less interesting attraction for us. In fact some tour guides kept us out of spaces so their groups could squeeze in. It was really obnoxious. However if you pay extra for the frescoe chapels you won't be disappointed. We encountered no crowds there and had a…
I was certainly amazed by the caves that took me way back to the ways and means in which people of the 11th century used to live. Life seemed to have been difficult for them and I am sure fear of wars had made them think twice before they carved the rocks down below. Everything showed that there was a…
Loved this historical site, so well preserved, and educational!!! The frescos in the Churchs are very beautiful, felt a bit rushed because of the number of people, but worth every penny of 15 T.Lira, don't miss it.
Cappadocia is just such an amazing exciting place to visit we enjoyed everything about it, Rose Valley, the mountains, sunsets, watching the hot air balloons early on a morning & especially the balloon ride itself.
