The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
Best thing for exploring Rose Valley is to rent an ATW at Hitchhikers Rental and of you go. It is amazing how the colors in the Valley changes several times a day due to the sun/clouds. Best Valley in Goreme
We went around on an ATV and it was simply breathtaking. It started raining halfway through but amazingly, it made the place even more beautiful. We took about 4 hours and I enjoyed every second of it. Rose Valley was beautiful as well. Everything about the place was beautiful. Our guide brought us to a small tea shop in the…
We went on a hike suggested by our hotel, it was a bit challenging, but perhaps we lost our way.The hike is not very long, perhaps 2 miles or so, but make sure to carefully make your choices when the roads fork.
Very interesting site historically The walk there seemed long and walking around the site was tiring because it was extremely hot in July. I recommend a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and lots of water.
The walk through the valley was not strenuous. It gave us the opportunity to view the magnificent landscape close up. Incredible experience.
It a small park where you can walk around excellent shaped fairy chimneys of cappadoccia. The paved walking trail is flat and easy to stroll.
No entrance fee, parking lot, toilets are ok. Camel riding available, several cafes to take break and have something lite to eat. Gift shops are available
We visited the Goreme open air Museum with the privatetour and we are glad that we did so. The guide told us what paintings (fresco) we need to pay attention to, what they mean and where they are. And as we are not huge religious fan so we could just go to the ones the guide recommended and skipped…
It's a bit out of the way of town but it's definitely a great prequel to a hot air balloon ride. Really interesting to actual see the stone homes!
It is the nearest destination in Goreme which means you can take a 20 min walk from Goreme city center. It takes an hour to see it. Enjoyable.
Fascinating and a little daunting to clamor around through narrow passages uner the earth. Only visited one of the underground cities and it only went down about 4 stories, but I understand there are more than 20 in the area and some go as deep as 8 stories. Don't miss visiting one of them
