The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
nice place to visit, needs at least half a day, lots of climbing stairs and up hill to see the churches inside. Photos not allowed inside the churches
Gorgeous place, and for the most part you can find your way but we were lucky we found a Turkish man on our way who showed us an unexpected way around the steep and dangerous path that we thought was the only one leading further down the valley (from Uchisar to Göreme). (Later, a French couple told me they had…
Great hike and plenty of fairy chimneys and rock wall caves to see. It took us about 2-3 hours going at a moderate pace. I liked the Pigeon valley hike better but this one is also worth doing.
You get an excellent view from here but Cappadocia is full of caves and cliffs and great views so this one only get's an "Average". If you happen to be in Uchisar it's definitely worth spending half and hour here but it does not merit a special trip although it's a good idea to combine it with a hike along…
You can take nice panoramics from this view. That's fantastic!!
This museum was just a museum like no other. the houses, churches etc are all carved in the mountains!! the view is just stunning! and is the perfect museum for children. there is a lot to find out and know about the place and its just a very fun kinda museum.
like to thank the organization for the Gamirasu Cave Hotel Cappadocia and Turkey.
If you want to get to know the world. Capadoccia need to see before.
I have not seen such a perfect holiday in my life. Cappadocia is excellent.
I saw myself in wonderland underground cities of Derinkuyu and Kaymakli.
We visited the Kaymakli underground city. The so different lifestyle of the people who lived (or took refuge) there amazes one and is highly educational about human nature. Though I am not claustrophobic I only managed to go down to the second level, I was afraid to go down lower.
After leaving this incredible place, you will still need to grab more information of where did they go, why do they decide to live here, what happened next, such a journey into history and nature.
Another great part of Cappadocia!. The natural beauty of this area is interspersed with historic sites. Take your time as you wander this area and take advantage of the many turnouts to take some great pictures.
