The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
I like everything there. It was very nice.Beautiful atmospher and nice fairy chimneys.I definitely recommend you to go there and enjoy the beauty.
Just so amazing to see this natural feature and how it had been adapted. Well worth the walking and climbing to see these features. A real must if you have ventured to this area.
The landscape of Cappadocia is unlike anything I have ever seen before. We took the sunrise balloon ride over the fairy chimneys and the caves. I would highly recommend this. There is nothing else like it.
This place must be visited if you are getting to Cappadocia cause it represents the symbol of this place. The site is not big but it has a big treasure. It is not far from goreme, everybody walks up there and the walk guarantees you a lovely panorama. In the way you can see the famous tree with the evil…
It's the most amazing place in the whole world… Highly recommended. A lot of places to visit… Good places to stay and eat.. Realy Wonderfoul
The trail goes from Uchisar to Göreme. Gorgeous views of both towns and landscape. But beware against getting lost.
Pigeon valley is a wonderful place to walk through. You can't get lost as there are no alternative paths.
Nice museum , worth a visit . Gets very crowded when tour buses arrives which means delays in visiting some of the sites as there is a limit to the number of people who can enter at a time
This was a fascinating place to explore the cave dwelling and churches in Cappadocia.
But we had to squeeze between tour groups, which was somewhat painful and made for some long waits at some locations.
Would recommend: 1. bringing a flashlight. 2. the audioguide.
We decided to skip the audioguide, but it would have been better to have it so…
Perfect place to get a gorgeous panoramic photo of beautiful Cappadocia.
