The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
No signs on how to get out of it to get back to Goreme town. It's very easy to get lost in those valleys
I came here first thing in the morning and had a pleasant time visiting everything at my own pace. A lot of the site only allow three people in at a time so when tour groups come their are long weights. The mistake I made is that when I bought my ticket I didn't get entrance to the Dark Church…
Uchisar was the first thing we viseted after our arrival in Goreme. The view from the top is just incredible. Go there and won't be wrong.
Turkey and the world's most reliable and amazing place. If you want to find a hidden treasure is enough to see Capadoccia. If you want to know the culture of Cappadocia door wide open. (churches-monasteries-underground cities-rock star hotels – hot air balloon – whirling – Turkish night – cappadocia wines-new raki – buttermilk and cappadocia food )and a wonderful holiday…
Rose Valley has numerous cave dwellings. There is a marked path, but there is also plenty of opportunity to stray and make your own way. You can easily browse the cave dwellings for an entire morning.
We enjoyed a walk in the pigeon valley with our guide and owner of Goreme Suites very much. He grew up and lives in the area and had intimate knowledge of the history, people and flora and fauna of the valley. He gave us us an insider's view of the area that was very informative and enjoyable.
The caves were fascinating. Art & history from the Byzantines to the Ottomans. The views from the caves are fantastic as well as the drawings. Tribes passed through this area. Some hid and some changed the sculpture. Beautiful ceiling drawings. We loved it!
I really enjoyed the open aır museum and was able to see much of ıt. So many staırs to get to some of the churches ıt was hard for someone lıke me wıth knee ıssues to navıgate. BUT, I saw the majorıty of ıt. Also, some of the caves and churches there are small and the tour groups made ıt…
I was told that Cappadocia was enjoyable and nice to see… I think the same but in an augmented view. Goreme areais extraordinary, nature is untainted and all the places are good for excursions, especially with a quad bike: amazing!
What an amazing walking experience. We meandered through this rock-hewn valley with a surprise round every corner – it was like reliving history, difficult to imagine living this secret hidden life so long ago. Beautiful!
