The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
This is a great 4k hike to get acquainted with the magic of Cappadocia. Catch a bus back to Göreme (if that is where you are staying) because it would not be an especially fun walk along the highway.
Many cave church soo cool I do recommend all people to see this place .
First cave on the left look like room inside on the floor under glass there still has body bones dont miss this 🙂
Must see place in Turkey.
It was really hot when we visited the place so be prepared with water and hats. The fee is 15 TL and them you can see the whole complex. You can visit all churches except the "black" church – you have to pay 8 TL more to see it. All of these are churches build…
The Goreme Open-Air Museum is a 1km walk out of town and very easy to find (just follow the tour buses up the main road!). Entry is 15 TRY and an audio guide is 10 TRY. If you want to enter the Dark Church – a major feature on the map and 30% of the audio guide – you have…
Many churches to see.Don't miss the dark church, you'll be amazed by the bright colors on the wall. The shop is great for Cappadocia souvenirs.
We visited the Kaymakli underground city. The so different lifestyle of the people who lived (or took refuge) there amazes one and is highly educational about human nature. Though I am not claustrophobic I only managed to go down to the second level, I was afraid to go down lower.
The whole park is incredible.
But, the day we went, there were way TOOOOO many tours there and there was a VERYYYYY long wait to get into each cave/area. Also, the audio guides were out. So no brochure…only the signage at each cave/area.
Be prepared for extra bright sun(sunglasses and hat a must) and stairs and a very hilly ascent….
I've heard about the caves a lot before actually visiting Cappadocia. The landscape was magical, one cannot believe that the caves are not man made. This attraction is certainly recommended for all those who want to embrace mother nature and see the way of living of early settlers.
We enjoyed a walk in the pigeon valley. There is 6 km hiking trail in the Pigeon valley, that connects Goreme and Uchisar.
Goreme valley is one of the most unique experiences one may end up missing if not planned on a visit to Turkey. It comprises unique land formation out of millions of years of evolution from volcanic ash. Goreme valley is inhabited by a small but very friendly population with fantastic tourist infrastructure
3 or 4 days of outdoor fun will…
