The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
This is a very good way to see what Cappadocia is about, a lot of nice fairy chimneys and cave chapels, of which the Dark Chapel is absolutely amazing, hundreds of year old frescos in caves that have been open for centuries is something you must see.
This was part of our south Cappadocia tour. Like the previous reviewers stated, the climb up was steep and hazardous. You'll need to be extra cautious. But when you get to the top you'll appreciate the view. There was a church, dormitory, school, kitchens, and watch tower at the top. Take a torch with you as some of the areas…
Stupendous, outstanding etc, etc. Well worth the coach trip, could easily of spent hours here; our guide gave us a walk n talk first then gave us free time to investigate and photograph as much as we wanted. Definately a national treasure, both for Cappadocia and Turkey. The old and infirm may have some problems here, younger children may easily get…
All our connections, luggage, and excursions were timely with no mishaps. The hotels were way beyond our expectation and Gate 1 employees as well as all staff were outstanding and the rooms extremely clean and modern. The bus driver and helper were friendly, patient and efficient.
My family of three (including my 15 year- old-daughter) really enjoyed our visit to the Goreme Open-Air Museum. While the landscape was somewhat unique, similar to parts of Utah and /or Arizona, the truly unique aspect is the fact that churches were carved out and actually used. We loved going into these churches and looking at the paintings on the…
My visit here was one of the most impressive I've every had. There were underground cities, dawn balloon rides, hotels built into caves, and scenery that makes your eyes pop. And everybody I met in this area was super friendly. You couldn't ask for more from a vacation spot.
Instead of walking along the road there are many paths from Uchisar to Goreme. It is a rather short distance, just a few miles, and offers wonderful views of dovecotes and mushroom shaped rock walls.
Explore the cave town where christians use to live in. There are some nice little cave churches to walk into. It is worth visiting if you are in Goreme
Lots of tourist.

A great place to visit and a symbol of what you will see in Cappadocia. Cheap entry, you do not need a guide to see it.
