The Turkish region of Cappadocia, a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage, boasts one of the most dramatic sights in the world.
Visiting Cappadocia is such a change from visiting many other busy bustling sights all over Turkey. It is a great pleasure to wander in the vast open space filled with captivating natural attractions which have seen human history dated back in the Bronze Age.
While in Goreme Open Air Museum , the conical formations resulting from the volcanic eruptions that took place millions of years ago, just follow the path up to the top of one of the ridges where a spectacular view of the fairy chimneys awaits you. The natural cone formations contain caves and labyrinths. As early as the third century, those chimneys became a hiding place for early Christians who fled persecution from the Romans, and then later from raiding Muslims. In modern tourism, many caves have been turned into cave houses for tourist stays and the lunar-like setting of Goreme Valley has become popular for hot-air ballooning.
Many say the extremely unique landscape of Cappadocia resembles some scene in a Star Wars movie and yet you may be surprised to discover that no major commercial movies have been filmed there. It would be a perfect setting for movies such as Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter series.
You can walk from the Goreme Open Air Museum through to Cavusin along the Rose Valley – just fantastic. The walk takes about 3 hours, and there are regular buses from Cavusin back to Goreme.
This is one of the "must-see" sights in Goreme and it is amazing. We visited it as part of a tour. It was good to have a guide for the information, but only one tour group is allowed into each cave a time. (There is a man with a stopwatch at each cave to enforce this). So even though there…
Just came back from a trip planned by 7 Wonders. Loved it. If you want a real adventure, plan a hot air balloon ride early in the morning so you can see the sun rise and travel over the cave dwellings in Cappadocia. Amazing
The museum here has a well defined walking track to keep the crowds under control and constantly moving in the same direction.
The descriptions are adequate but a guide book or paying a guide will give you a better understanding of the sites.
The major issue is that there are no photos allowed within the caves, the flash apparantly fades…
It is very unique, how people in past craft the cave to be a misionery place.
The place was good peak into the way how caves were made and used in the chimneys for people to live with all basic facilities like kitchen, wine making and drinking, bedrooms, common areas and paintings all over. There are detailed descriptions about most of the exhibits. However there is one catch, the entry to the museum is 15 TL…
It is so far one of the best open air museum.
Dark church and buckle churche both of them are professionaly restored by the unesco.
Dark one is not included to museum ticket. There is extra charce (8 tl) They only except turkish money. It is must to see.
I spent a wonderful place 4 days. Beautiful views, sunny valley with beautifully carved houses in the rocks. Quiet place causing reverie. You can relax in a quiet walk between the massive rock structures. Awesome place remaining in the memory forever. I recommend to visit
The climb to Uchisar is beautiful. When you reach Uchisar, keep going up and you'll reach Uchisar fortress, which has great views to lofty snow-covered Mt. Erciyes on clear days.
Nice place, I did it in a quad, was very funny. Some do trekking. Incredible sights, near red valley an hour and a half ride.
