Built in the 1920s on a fourth century base! A tourist trap and well worth avoiding unless you are a devout (and credulous) believer.
What is amazing is the way one can almost walk through the streets of the city and imagine how the city was organised in those time by seeing the ruins on both sides.
Being Catholic, we couldn't miss a visit to the Virgin Mary's House. It is not a place to visit if you have any mobility issues as there is a steep hill between the parking lot and the house itself. We were glad to visit the house and grounds, but very disappointed that we had to line up for a quick…
Well, you can only get here by taxi and if you can haggle incessantly with a taxi driver and find out and agreeable fare, good luck. They are the biggest hurdle to get to Mary's house. We decided not to go there for this reason, although it would have been nice to see the place..
We had a beautiful day whilst visiting Our Ladys House – she is meant to have spent the last few years of her life there. There is a lovely peaceful feeling, her home is tiny, but feels very spiritual. you can get holy water on sight and light candles, and there is a small shop there to buy souveneirs..
We enjoyed our visit to Mary's House. Many in our group were moved by the experience regardless of religion. It was such a solemn and peaceful place. So worth the trip up the mountain.
We would not have enjoyed Turkey as much as we did if we had not taken this tour. The tour picked us up at the cruise terminal. We knew the sites we were going visit but our tour guide suggested the order to visit that would suit us best.
House of Mary and Ephesus was more than we imagined great tour guide Sinan. fantastic day from start to finish lunch was excellent great memories.
